Vampire Weekend Information
American Indie rockers Vampire Weekend first came together during their time at Columbia University. Members Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio self-produced a studio album following their graduation in 2007. After signing with XL Recordings, their song "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" ranked #67 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 100 Best Songs of the Year. Their most recognizable songs include "A-Punk" and "Mansard Roof." "A-Punk" appeared in Will Ferrell's blockbuster movie "Step Brothers," and also landed a place in the hit UK television show, "The Inbetweeners."
Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated follow-up Contra (2010) was accompanied by a tour that’s been nonstop since January. Vampire Weekend has spent most of the summer playing shows all over the world including the festivals Coachella, Glastonbury, Roskilde, Montreaux Jazz Festival, T In The Park, Benicassim, Latitude and more before the start of their tour in Vancouver on August 27th. The band already has a booked touring schedule through December including a sold out, three-night stint in their hometown of New York City at the Radio City Music Hall. The fall tour will conclude in the US in Miami, FL on October 13th before sailing overseas for their biggest UK shows yet.
Contra, the sophomore album, was released by XL Recordings and debuted at #1 on the Billboard chart, a first for an indie rock band. The first track “Horchata†is a tribute to college summers while the album’s single “Giving Up the Gunâ€, “Giving Up the Gunâ€, the telling of a washed up character living the fraternity life they so often ponder and in turn criticize. Vampire Weekend will be performing in Boston at the Bank of America Pavilion with Beach House and the Dum Dum Girls on September 12th.
