New England Revolution Information

The New England Revolution is a professional soccer team with its home base in Foxborough, MA. Owned by New England Patriots’ owner, Robert Kraft, the team also plays in Gillette Stadium. They are one of the 10 original soccer teams, starting in 1996. They have won 2007’s U.S. Open Cup, 2008’s North American SuperLiga, and despite appearances in the MLS Cup Finals in 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007, have never won.

The first five years for the Revolution were not very successful, but in 2002, Steve Nicol took over as head coach and led the team to the playoffs for eight straight seasons. They lost to the LA Galaxy twice in the MLS Cup finals, 1-0, in 2002 and 2005. They struggled a little in the 2008 and 2009 seasons but were still able to make the playoffs, until 2010 when they broke their streak.

The team is led by Goalkeeper Matt Reis and Captain Midfielder Shalrie Joseph. After Steve Nicols stepped down as coach at the end of the 2011 season, Jay Heaps took over for the upcoming 2012 season. The new season begins on March 10 against San Jose and the Revolution hope to get back to their past success and finally win a MLS championship.
