Los Angeles Dodgers Information

The Dodgers were established in 1883 as the Brooklyn Dodgers until their move to Los Angeles in 1958. The LA Dodgers are one of the most successful franchises in MLB history with six World Series titles and 21 NL Pennants to their credit.

In 2008, the Dodgers won the NL West division with an 84-78 record. With Joe Torre as their new head coach, LA was automatically thought to be in playoff contention at the start of the season. During a small mid-season drought the front office realized they had to make some moves to stay in the race. After the All-Star break the Dodgers traded for infielders Angel Berroa and Casey Blake, and later acquired Manny Ramirez in a block-buster deal from the Boston Red Sox. With the revamped roster LA went on to knock off the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS 3-0. They advanced to the NLCS and lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, who ultimately went on to win the World Series.

The Dodgers earned a 95-67 record to capture the NL West for the second consecutive season in 2009. Despite the successful run to get them back into the playoffs, they were sent home by the Phillies once again in the championship series. The 2010 Dodgers struggled with the high profile divorce proceedings of their former owner, Frank McCourt, and were unable to make it into the playoffs with their fourth place finish and 80-82 record.

In 2011, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw won the NL Pitching Triple Crown Cy Young Award, while outfielder Matt Kemp had a spectacular season, leading in Home Runs and RBI and placing second in the NL MVP vote. Don Mattingly took over as manager and Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced that an MLB representative would take over operations of the Dodgers front office. They ended the season third in the division at 82-79. 2012 will bring a new owner to the team and a chance for a fresh start with superstar players.
