Lewis Black Information

Lewis Black is a critically acclaimed standup comedian, actor and author whose fan base includes the likes of Larry King and George Carlin. His live performances exude “a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment for his audience, yelling so they don’t have to”. Referring to himself as a pissed-off optimist, Black is said to be a comedian that will not only have his audience in stitches, but will make compelling points about the absurdity of the world while doing so.

At the beginning of his career, Lewis Black was mainly interested in theater and oversaw the development of over 1,000 plays as a playwright-in-residence. It was here at the West Bank Café’s Downstairs Theater Bar that he cultivated a fondness for stand-up. Black is known mostly for his weekly segment on The Daily Show called “Back in Black”, a three-minute rant about anything that bothered him. The segment continued on the show for years, becoming widely popular and granting Black his own Comedy Central specials. Black has released two books and seven albums, with one going on sale June 15th, Stark Raving Black (2010), which is live footage from a show in Detroit and will be available on DVD as well.

Lewis’s current “In God We Rust” tour will make its way to New England mid-August, appearing at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in NH on the 19th followed by the Cape Code Melody Tent in Hyannis, Ma on the 20th and the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Ma on the 21st.
