Jeff Dunham Information
Dallas-native Jeff Dunham has opened a world of comedic relief with the introduction of his five reoccurring ventriloquist characters: Walter the grumpy retiree, the redneck Bubba J, the manic Peanut, the spicy Jose Jalapeno, and the bumbling, skeletal Achmed the Dead Terrorist; all said to be “politically incorrect, gratuitously insulting and ill tempered†by Time magazine. His use of puppets began as a teenager, giving them risqué monologues that he was too embarrassed to say himself. Dunham wandered through obscurity for years before catching his big break in 2006 with his first one-hour special on Comedy Central, Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself, drawing two million viewers.
Dunham has since been called "America's favorite comedian" by Slate.com and the Top Comic in Comedy Central’s “Stand-Up Showdownâ€. According to the concert industry publication Pollstar, he is the top-grossing standup act in North America, and is among the most successful acts in Europe as well. Dunham also had the highest rated season premiere ever to debut on Comedy Central with his television series “The Jeff Dunham show†in 2009.
As of March 2009, he has sold over four million DVDs, an additional 7 million dollars in merchandise and has received more than 350 million hits on YouTube, making him one of the most viewed entertainers of all time. Spark of Insanity received the best reviews of any DVD on Amazon.com in 2008, and A Very Special Christmas Special was the most-watched telecast in Comedy Central history, with its DVD going quadruple platinum in its first two weeks. With his must-see routine, Jeff Dunham is currently touring the US and Canada through the summer. His autobiography titled All By My Selves: Peanut, Achmed and Me, is anticipated to be released this year.
